"A folk idea of protection,
worn in contemporary life."
Inspired by Gazir Pata, a traditional Bengali scroll painting, this work draws from the stories of Gazi Pir — a folk protector who guarded villagers from physical and spiritual danger. The scroll paintings depict Gazi Pir alongside tigers and devotees in a visual language that fuses myth, devotion, and everyday life.
I reinterpret this idea of protection through modern spiritual practices — rituals, symbols, and objects that people reach for when facing stress and anxiety in contemporary life. The collection asks: what does it mean to seek protection today? And how does that need carry the same emotional weight as the folk traditions that came before it?
